Ohhh it’s so true! |
1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) Prime Minister Najib Razak must now surely be a very, very man.
Switzerland has gone on record as the first of some 10 countries conducting 1MDB-linked alleged multi-billion-dollar/ringgit money laundering investigations to institute criminal proceedings against the suspected thief/thieves of Malaysia’s Finance Ministry’s so called national sovereign fund.
This means all available incriminating documents will be exposed during the proper trial, thus revealing all involved or implicated in the world’s biggest ever money-laundering sting.
International news agency Reuters today reported Switzerland’s Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has opened criminal proceedings against Zurich-based Falcon Private Bank over its alleged failure to prevent suspected money laundering linked to 1MDB Malaysian state fund.
No News Is Bad News is re-posting the Reuters report that was carried by online news portal Free Malaysia Today (FMT) and five other politically significant news clips picked up and given new headlines by the Malaysian-banned online news portal Malaysia Chronicle:

ZURICH: Switzerland’s Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has opened criminal proceedings against Zurich-based Falcon Private Bank over its alleged failure to prevent suspected money laundering linked to Malaysian state fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
“The information suggests that the offences of money laundering currently under investigation in (the) 1MDB case could have been prevented had the Falcon Private Bank Ltd been adequately organized,” the OAG said in a statement on Wednesday.

"MEN OF CONSCIENCE: U.S. SPEAKER PAUL RYAN, WHO CHIDED TRUMP AFTER VULGAR VIDEO, CALLS FOR ANWAR’S RELEASE
Politics | October 12, 2016 by | 0 Comments
KUALA LUMPUR – US Speaker Paul D. Ryan added his voice to those calling for the release of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from imprisonment on a sodomy conviction, while a Federal Court panel reviews the latter’s case today.
“I join in calling for the immediate release of @anwaribrahim in #Malaysia. He is a prisoner of conscience and should be free,” Ryan tweeted this morning.
Anwar, who is currently serving a five-year jail sentence, is asking the country’s highest court to reconsider its previous decision to uphold the sodomy conviction and penalty handed down by the Court of Appeal.
The 69-year-old was charged with sodomy for the second time in his life in 2008, but was acquitted by the High Court after a long trial in 2012.
However, his legal battle continued at the appellate court when the prosecution appealed against the acquittal. In 2014, the Court of Appeal reversed the acquittal.

The Federal Court rejected his appeal last February 10, upholding his conviction and five-year prison term.
In his April 30, 2015 review application, Anwar’s lawyers listed two main grounds on why the Federal Court should review its decision: to prevent injustice and because his conviction was objectively unsafe.

"NAJIB SHIVERS: CAN JOHOR SULTAN GET THE 5 VOTES NEEDED TO BECOME THE NEXT AGONG
Politics | October 12, 2016 by | 0 Comments
The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, today chaired the 242nd Meeting of the Conference of Rulers at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur.
The two-day meeting is attended by all the royal Malay rulers, accompanied by their respective menteri besar, while the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Malacca, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak are accompanied by their chief ministers.
The Special Meeting of the Conference of Rulers will take place on Friday to elect the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the 15th.
The current Agong is Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, the Sultan of Kedah, whose five-year term, effective from Dec 13, 2011, will end this Dec 12.
Based on the rotation system set by the Conference of Rulers, the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, is the next in line as Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
There are a number of factors to be considered by the Conference of Rulers in selecting the succeeding Agong, such as the candidate being agreeable to assuming the post and is not physically or mentally incapacitated.
Besides that, the candidate should be a state ruler, receive the support of at least five other rulers and has not held the post of Yang di-Pertuan Agong for two consecutive terms.
In the normal process, before the selection process begins, the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal will ask the next in line in the list on whether he is prepared to be chosen as the next Agong.
The nine royal rulers will vote, through secret ballot, and if the candidate receives at least five votes, he will officially be the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The process is repeated for the post of Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong, who will act on behalf of the Agong during His Majesty’s absence or due to illness.

"UNITED NATIONS WILL CONDEMN YOU, UMNO: HOW MANY MORE TIMES WITH WILL GOOD GOVERNANCE BE SACRIFICED JUST TO SAVE NAJIB’S CAREER – NGO ON ANWAR’S JAILING
Politics | October 12, 2016 by | 0 Comments
This entire case against Anwar Ibrahim has been politically motivated from the start, and should have never been brought into a court of first instance, much less made it to the Federal Court.
While Anwar is headed back to prison, the reputation of the Malaysia government is still on trial in the court of international opinion, and Prime Minister Najib and his government have been found seriously wanting.
The open question being asked by the UN and other governments to Malaysia and the ruling UMNO party is how many more times will they sacrifice respect for human rights and good governance to try and save the political career of one government leader?

"MALAY DOORS SLAM ON NAJIB: DESPITE UMNO POKING FIRE, ANWAR CONFIRMS HE’S HAPPY TO BURY THE HATCHET WITH DR M
Politics | October 12, 2016 by | 0 Comments
PUTRAJAYA – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim welcomed today his former boss Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s recent move to bury their past differences after 18 long years.
The de facto Opposition leader expressed his relief to Malay Mail Online at the Palace of Justice here during a break in the proceedings of his court review of his second sodomy conviction, for which he is currently serving a five-year jail sentence.
“It’s a good statement. I’m glad he said it. I am relieved,” Anwar said.
Anwar was responding to the former prime minister’s recent remarks in an interview with news portal Malaysiakini that he no longer held any grudge with his one-time protege who was sacked as deputy prime minister in 1998 on sodomy and corruption charges.
Dr Mahathir was quoted as saying: “I should hope so” when asked if there was no more bad blood between him and Anwar.
Anwar added that Dr Mahathir’s statement was a good move for the future of politics in Malaysia.
“It is a positive development for the country. I am happy he said those things,” the 69-year-old said.
Anwar’s party, PKR and Dr Mahathir’s new party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, are seeking to forge a grand Opposition coalition to go head-to-head with the ruling Barisan Nasional at the next general elections.
However, Anwar’s family does not appear to be as forgiving of Dr Mahathir. Anwar’s wife and the official Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and their children have so far been cold when asked about Dr Mahathir’s attempts to reconcile.

"ANWAR’S FREEDOM A BLOW NAJIB & UMNO CANNOT AFFORD: EVEN PAS WILL GRAVITATE TO A FREED ANWAR – FORMER PAS LEADER
Politics | October 12, 2016 by | 0 Comments
A former PAS lawmaker said today freedom for jailed PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim could determine the future of the federal opposition against BN.
Tumpat MP Kamarudin Jaafar, who left PAS to join PKR, said this included Anwar’s influence in being able to convince PAS on the need for a united opposition come the 14th general election.
“It is also not just about the country’s future.
“PAS must realise that its own future relies on forging cooperation with all other parties,” Kamarudin said when met at the Federal Court complex in Putrajaya.
He was among the lawmakers who came to show support for Anwar who was in court today for the hearing on the review of his Sodomy II conviction.
This rare Federal Court review will essentially determine if the five-member bench led by Chief Justice Arifin Zakaria had, on Feb 10, 2015, erred in its decision to maintain Anwar’s conviction and five-year jail sentence.
If this new bench today determines that the earlier bench had erred, it can order Anwar to be released, thus allowing the PKR de facto leader to contest in the 14th general election, which is widely expected to be held next year.
Commenting further, Kamarudin said this was because Anwar’s influence among supporters has remained, despite him being held behind bars.
“Not just in Selangor, Penang or Kelantan, but in all the seats won by the opposition,” said Kamarudin, who added that Anwar was a contributing factor in many seats won by the opposition, which at that time comprised PAS, PKR and DAP.
‘His freedome will raise our spirit’
Asked for comments on reported attempts by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin to negotiate with PAS, Kamarudin said he welcomes any move towards forming a united opposition.
Separately, former PAS Kuala Krai MP Dr Hatta Ramli said Anwar has remained as the de facto opposition leader, even from behind bars.
“His freedom will raise our spirit to continue the fight against BN,” said Hatta who is now with Amanah.
However, he declined to comment on any seat negotiations between Bersatu and PAS.
“No comment,” Hatta said when asked about Muhyiddin’s reported request to PAS that his new party be allowed to contest against Umno in Kelantan.
Muhyiddin made the request earlier this month, while delivering a ceramah on a PAS stage in Kemaman, Terengganu.
Since the break-up of Pakatan Rakyat and the formation of Pakatan Harapan, PAS has initiated the formation of a “third bloc” with Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia and other NGOs.– M’kini"
