1MDB PM ‘Cash Is King’ Najib now a political desperado for funds! He redefines ‘donations’ for politics!
You want to know how desperate is 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) Prime Minister Najib Razak sourcing for funds for the next general election to consolidate his premiership?
The Malay Mail online has quoted Najib as saying government-linked companies (GLCs) may channel funds to politicians and political parties under corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
“channel funds”? Perhaps the more appropriate word is “donate” or “donations”.
Is he really serious? Does he think Malaysians are all born stupid?
GLCs! That tells you they are absolutely pro-government and therefore indirectly linked to Malaysian taxpayers and their and the country’s interests are at stake.
Guess, then, who will GLCs donate to?
Let’s look at an almost impossible scenario: What happens if a GLC also donates to Opposition politicians and parties?
What happens if the private sector also donates to Opposition politicians and parties, also for CSR? Is it acceptable to the government?
CSR initiative crap!
Legitimising such “donations” from GLCs is definitely giving the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) more room to source for funds unabated, further disadvantaging the Opposition. Previously, BN can only discreetly source for funds just like any other political party.
Now, Najib wants it to be legitimised and even control the funds and donations that are going to the Opposition politicians and parties.
And to suggest, as it is being done now, that political funding be controlled by a Bank Negara Malaysia entity is even more ridiculous.
What is becoming of democracy in Malaysia and a political level playing field under 1MDB PM Najib?
And, why is Najib so desperate for cash? Read these for context: http://victorlim2016.blogspot.my/2016/10/1mdb-pm-najibs-umno-led-bn-loses-two.html (the third story) and http://victorlim2016.blogspot.my/2016/10/1mdb-malaysias-economics-of-mercedes.html.

In a written reply to Bandar Tun Razak MP Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, Najib, who is also finance minister, said requests for “contributions” from such sources are treated the same way as those originating from citizens groups.
“For your information, government-owned companies through the Finance Ministry Incorporated and GLCs do not have a specific annual allocation to be channelled to politicians or political parties.
“However, when there is a request for contribution from the said parties, it will then be managed similar to how financial contributions are channelled by NGOs, that is based on the need of the organisation and the available balance in the budget for CSR at the time the request is made,” Najib said.
Examples of when aid was given to political recipients include funding for school sporting events, aid for flash flood victims, to organise buka puasa events and Hari Raya celebrations, as well as festive contributions for orphans, single mothers, and the disabled.
Abdul Khalid had asked the minister to state the amount of annual funding from GLCs that has been channelled to politicians and political parties from 1981 till 2014, and if there are any plans to stop such a practice.
